Having grown up in Kenosha, Wisconsin, and now living in Brooklyn, New York, I’ve had the wonderful fortune of meeting and working with many different people. I was a theatre major at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside almost by accident. While I was in high school, I didn’t know I could make a career in theatre. In fact, I didn’t even know my high school had a theatre. The summer before my freshman year of college, I was browsing through the course catalog, trying to figure out what classes to take my first semester. I was trying to point myself in the direction of a communication degree, but didn’t really have any guidance to get there. I stumbled across a course called Stagecraft. It was in the Dramatic Arts section, but the description was appealing to me. I knew how to pound nails, and use all the tools and could read a tape measure. This sounded like “an easy A.” Four years later, I was on my way to the University of Connecticut as an MFA candidate in the Technical Direction program. There was some doubt whether I would be accepted into the program. My training didn’t include even a minute of Auto Cad or technical drafting, but I had the carpentry skills and confidence to get me in the door. My mentor for three years at UCONN was Jack Nardi and I owe him a lifetime of thanks for a first class education. I moved to New York in May of 2001. I’ve been working in commercial shops, first as a carpenter, and for the past five years, as a Project Manager. On a personal note, I live with my girlfriend, Liza, of twelve years in Brooklyn. We meet my freshman year at UW-Parkside. She is a freelance scenic artist. We have three cats, which I think is at least two too many. I’m a huge sports fan. I think I’m the biggest Green Bay Packer fan in all of New York. Liza and I watch every game at a local bar’s satellite TV. It’s both challenging and rewarding for a Mid Western boy to make a living in New York.
